Sophie stood on the back deck of Belle’s house, entranced with the beautiful two-story home that Belle’s husband, Hunter, had built for her. When she had arrived, the wide front porch greeted her, and her eyes were drawn to the porch swing. The house still had a new feel to it, and while Belle had apologized at its incompleteness, Sophie thought it was enchanting.

A chilly wind blew off the Bay, and she turned, staring through the sliding glass door into the large kitchen where the other women were gathered around the island. She remembered Belle from her childhood years, always thinking her name was special since it was a Disney Princess name. Belle had certainly grown up to be a beautiful woman, curvy with long blond hair. She had a quiet smile that instantly warmed and comforted. It was not hard to imagine that she was the head nurse for a local assisted living facility.

Jillian, still as pretty as the homecoming queen she had been in high school, had adopted a fun appearance with bright clothes and her sandy blond hair pulled back in a long braid. The artwork that she displayed in the Galleria of her coffee shop showcased her eclectic taste in local art. Katelyn, the athletic one in high school, now had motherhood softening her features. Her dark hair, so like all the other MacFarlanes’, was being passed on to her little boy, Finn. It was hard to imagine that she was now a private investigator, and yet Sophie always remembered that Katelyn had a strong sense of right and wrong.

She was saddened to learn of Tori’s grandmother’s passing, remembering fondly the many cookies they used to enjoy under the large magnolia in her backyard. But she was thrilled that Tori had inherited the Sea Glass Inn, continuing the tradition. She knew that Mitch had had a special place in his heart for Tori when they were children, and the idea that they were now married with a child just seemed right. Tori’s thick auburn hair had been cut in a sleek shoulder-length bob, and as Sophie pushed her wind-blown curls back from her face, she was envious of hair that would stay in place.

The other women that were new to Baytown, obviously welcomed into the fold, were equally as nice. Ginny, a police officer in town, was quiet and very observant, but with a ready smile, she joked and laughed with the other women. It was hard at first to imagine her with Brogan, but once she saw them together, it was obvious they were a perfect fit. She had seen Ginny in town, wearing the police uniform of khaki pants, paired with a long-sleeved shirt with BPD logo, her brown hair pulled up in a regulation bun. Tonight, with her hair down and in jeans paired with a slouchy sweatshirt, she looked more at ease.

Jade, a teacher at the elementary school, had green eyes that always seemed to be smiling. A newcomer to the area, she had met and married one of the veterans that Mitch had invited to live in Baytown.
